A little perspective...

A little perspective...

...for any of you who may think bodhrans or djembes are obnoxious. I guess even I have my limitations.

Re: A little perspective...

That's all right--no one was really playing music to begin with, so the "percussion" wasn't damaging anything.

I'm sitting here waiting for a download. That's my excuse for checking out Random_posts_on_thesessi_oh_never_mind

Re: A little perspective...

That video's been up on YT for nearly 6 months and not a single response or comment. Can't think why. Only 29 views, too - presumably most being from members of the band and people who were there, the others being Fishmonger, Miss LH, and me.

Re: A little perspective...

I really like the stick he uses. Nice curve to it. I'd like to have one for to scratch my back and other things I'll not mention.

Re: A little perspective...

Nah, he made that drum himself and he's just nailing the end on.

Re: A little perspective...

Nah, that's a beer keg, and he's just trying to open it before the end of the tune so the band can have a drink.

Re: A little perspective...

Re: A little perspective...

Ah, yes - the west African "talking" drum

Here's what it is supposed to sound like in it's proper context -

If the Senegalese have a "talking" drum in their culture, Do the Irish have a "Slagging" drum in the bodhran? Just asking from a cultural-anthropologist's viewpoint.

Re: A little perspective...

That African guy makes the talking drum sound really cool. They are all having so much fun. I love it.

Re: A little perspective...

That video is now up to 96 viewings (as of 0215 hrs GMT). I think there's something know as the Horrid Fascination Effect starting to happen.

Re: A little perspective...

Yep, deffo HFE. Like old reels of the Hindenberg disaster, you know what's going to happen, but you can't pry your eyes away....

Re: A little perspective...

Thank you for posting that, JNE:

I was about to cry, hearing what that well-meaning stranger was doing with that poor innocent talking drum on Drowsey Maggie.
If you like that drum, sir, why are you abusing it so?

Oh, well. A nice idea whose time has not yet arrived.
(Perhaps it is time to try sackbut instead.)

Re: A little perspective...

Who cares about the drum? If you want to turn it into music, the first thing you need to do is shoot the bass guitarist.

Re: A little perspective...
