Wondering if there are any good sources for Manx and Cornish tunes. Looking specifically for songs with words (in Cornish and Manx). Something you could play at a session type setting -i.e. somewhat faster tunes.
If you're ever in Cornwall there used to be an all-Cornish tunes and songs session at the Star Inn in St. Day. Don't know if it's still on. The host put out a book and CD of Cornish tunes, but I didn't have the ready cash to buy it and now I've forgotten the name of his group so I suppose that doesn't help.
I've found a useful website, which is a database of Cornish tunes: http://www.an-daras.com/music/m_index.htm.
Apparently, you can listen to most of them in Midi, or you can download the dots - but only in NWC (Noteworthy Composer) format, for which you'll need the Noteworthy player in order to read them.

Manx and Cornish Tunes
Hello all,
Wondering if there are any good sources for Manx and Cornish tunes. Looking specifically for songs with words (in Cornish and Manx). Something you could play at a session type setting -i.e. somewhat faster tunes.
Thanks!

Re: Manx and Cornish Tunes
Try a couple of google searches - "cornish folk tunes" and "manx folk tunes" - unless someone comes up with some specific websites.

Re: Manx and Cornish Tunes
Try this:
Manx Heritage Foundation Music Database:
http://www.manxheritagemusic.org/home.aspx
Lots of trad songs and tunes there
Also search on 'Ilse of Man, music'

Re: Manx and Cornish Tunes
I posted a Cornish tune to thesession.org a while back:

It's called the Zeak Waltz, although it's actually a hornpipe ...
... they're a funny lot, those Kernow types ...

Re: Manx and Cornish Tunes
The origins of Arrane Ghelby, the tune recorded by Solas, seem more than a little pointy pointy pointy.
Nice tune, though!
