Renowned Cape Breton fiddler and songwriter, Dougie MacDonald, passed away on Dec. 26 as the result of a tragic motor vehicle accident. He was 41 years old. Dougie was committed to preserving Celtic music and culture in Cape Breton and around the world. The man and his music will be missed.
Damn we've had a string of untimely deaths amongst traditional fiddlers! So sorry to hear this--deepest condolences to his family and friends. His tunes spread far and wide--we'll play a few of his tonight here in Montana.

One of my favorite tunes of Dougie's is Broadcove Bride (posted here http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/4713), recorded by Solas.
Thanks for the memorial link. Such a loss....

A great loss, and sadly not the first time Cape Breton's roads have taken a life... This is sad news...
