This is a simple one I just put together. Probably not a good one for kids. I'm sure there are others.
For G-C-E-A tuned ukulele.

F = 2-0-1-0.

(Note: For Ending Add a Final [C] .)
G Gsus2 G Gsus2 G
Glistening ava- lan- ches, left and right,
C6 C C6 C C6
Fall from bran- ches burdened i-(i)-(i)- (i)n the night.

Above through the fo-(o)g and sky-(y)-(y)- bo-(o)-(o)rne mists,
C6 C C6 C C6
A singular ye-(e)-llow glo--(o)-(o)w pe--(e)-(e)r- sists.
Is it Apollo playing chicken,
On motorcycle, anger stricken,
Recalling Saturnalia's power,
The old sun god to ecclipse and sour?
For now we're near the solstice' dark hour,
Bringing cold and want and feelings dour.
No ancient birth is enough today,
To change the world, death's hand to much stay.
Here and there the bells are now ringing,
Now and then, hear the children singing.
How many go home to cold and want,
Fearing nightly a father's blows blunt?
After "Wassail!" cries have died away
How many women will long for day,
While children huddle in the corner,
And father assails helpless mother?
How many madmen fill silent nights,
With rage and malice, a child's dread plight?
Though now recalled is one babe's slumber,
Others must cringe in countless numbers.
If you pray for blessings and for joy,
With other thoughts your prayer's now alloy,
Can you a child's long suffering ease?
Would that not too the Son of God please?
Advance Merry Xmas to all! The battle for holiday employment is brutal. It's hard being let go, whether it's your fault or not, as many people have found out in the last year. The unemployment rate is at it's highest in decades, many are scared and don't know where to turn. The best strategies for coping are first, to allow yourself a little time to grieve, stay positive and determined, and do your level best to get a new job. Make sure you also have your finances squared away. Persistence will pay off, and as long as you keep your wits and your nose to the grindstone, you'll have a new job and no need for a cash advance before you know it.
I, too, have moral outrages and political passions, and I pursue them vigorously.
But this site was created for the discussion and promotion of Irish Traditional Music, and I think we should all respect that, else it just becomes a battleground for everyone's private passions.
The earlier posting about traditional carol tunes and their connections to other traditional music, and how they might fit in with a session, was relevant and topical.
Perhaps not this one though.
Have you tried offering this to perform in your local church ?
Actually, this came about after I spent some time with "The Darkest Midnight in December", which also as some lyrics that sound somewhat religious. This actually leans the other way with the references to the Roman pantheon. Sorry, no offense. I did modify it to make the chord changes smoother.

Re: Simple, Chord Based Christmas Tunes
LOL!
In the second line, Arthur, "On a Harley" would scan better than "On a motorcycle".
Merry Christmas!
