Re: duet tunes

Is there a theme required? ~ such as 'Irish' tunes? If not, then those two instruments would blend beautifully over some of the compositions of Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson, for two examples ~

~ a jig,a reel and a hornpipe ~ :-/ ~ in your spare time... :-D

My eyes are missing things... Can you play a 'slow' reel? I suppose it depends on the judges and who this is for? ~ Comhaltas? Can you do a set dance in place of the hornpipe?

Re: duet tunes

The old Sean Potts and Paddy Moloney album "Tin Whistles" may give you some ideas, if you have access to it. Much of it is whistle duets / harmonies. Or other albums by The Chieftains. For that matter, you might find some of their arranged / harmonised numbers on YouTube. Mind, the judges might know straight away if you'd lifted them!

Re: duet tunes

Good luck in the competition Martin, but I'll never understand why people ask for suggestions about tunes for competitions here.

It's nothing personal, you see this asked a lot. But the answer is obviously play tunes you like and are comfortable with, not some tune that some guy on the web sent you a link to the dots :-) If its a duet competition, discuss it with your partner to see what tunes you have in common or if one of you has a great tune that the other would like to learn off them.

Re: duet tunes

- chris is right, choose from your own heart. Don't try to please anyone else but yourself. Even though I've adjudicated, which I will never return to, I HATE competition in this music, shared with my wife and with close friends. But, if you're going for it, go with things you're comfortable with and love. Don't go to impress, but to do justice to the music, the tunes you're fond of. No one can really suggest for you, as we neither know you or your repertoire or your general inclinations and leaning. If you life in a region with a tradition, better yet, choose from that, from what you know already...

When I did adjudicate I never counted flash worth much but valued tradition, and seeing a 'natural' relationship with the music, that the person was relaxed and enjoying what they did, that they cared about it. Not everyone is in that mind, and some people weren't happy that I was.

As it's about duets, compare notes and passions. That will generally always work well for you.

Re: duet tunes

Another possibility would be to tell us the second member of your pair, that is if they are a member here, and we could compare your two tunebooks and offer some suggestions from there?
