i find when i play alot, my fingertip segs get very thick, which lowers the risk of pain if i keep playing really too much, but also playing seems to be easier overall, i assume this is partially due the lack of sweat getting through the thick skin.
then i have a long bath,
and i wrecks me segs in de hot water.
i read an interview with a mountaineer who actually wears rubber gloves in the bath, to prevent loss of hard skin on his hands. i havent done this (yet!) but i wonder if any of you gonques do so.
also i was glueing a guitar today and got superglue on my fingers. as it stuck me, it struck me that superglueing your segs might be a good way to thicken them up temporarily.
Here we sometimes drive Segs, but try not tu put them in a hot water. Don't know about cladding them in rubber - usually we just clean them with a damp cloth.
Segs are the nails in the soles and heels of your tackity boots. Great for sliding on concrete. The black discs on the ends of your fingers are called opercula. Honest.
"Solar Energy Generating Systems (SEGS) is the largest solar energy generating facility in the world. It consists of nine solar power plants in California's Mojave Desert..."
Blakeys, now known as Pennine Castins, have been manufacturing segs since 1902. They are now considering expansio into the drugs and rock and roll markets.
Hmmm... Segs are the little metal bits protecting the toes and heels of your boots (clogs, whatever), maybe that's where calling calluses segs came from ... finger protectors.

Re: i love segs
I really must brush up on my regional slang. What section of the globe uses "segs" to describe calluses on the tips of ones fingers?
I do agree however, that super-glue is useful when the digits become raw or cut from over-playing.

Re: i love segs
That there mountaineer is only being a pretentious ponce about the rubber gloves. I've never heard owt so daft.
When you get out of the bath and dry off for a few hours your segs will return to their previous hardness.
And anyway, only dirty people bath in the first place.
