Olwell, Keyless African Blackwood flute - for sale
Olwell, Keyless African Blackwood flute - for sale
I'm selling my beautiful, keyless flute made by Patrick Olwell. It's only six months. I always loved the sound of an Olwell flute but was frightened away by the 5-6 year wait for a keyed flute so ordered, and eventually got, this wonderful keyless one.
It has a silver rings, a fully lined head piece and is a “Pratten” style flute. The quality, craftsmanship and tone are superb as one would expect from an Olwell and I do hate to part with it but I miss having keys as I usually play a 3 keyed flute (Cnat, Fnat & G-sharp for those who would like to know).
Re: Olwell, Keyless African Blackwood flute - for sale
Why not keep this flute and send it out to get keys added to it?
It's not a sacred object - it's just a hunk of wood made into a
flute by a guy named Olwell.
Re: Olwell, Keyless African Blackwood flute - for sale
To get keys added it would need blocks, which would mean a completely new barrel, which takes time and costs money and it would make it an entirely different flute and what would I do with the old barrel? Would this beautiful part of the flute be then lying idle, what a waste!
Your comment reminds me of when I first started playing the flute, I had a borrowed flute and was totally excited when showing it to some friends when someone walked in, took a look and asked "What's all the excitement about? it's only a stick with holes!"

cough cough 1400 Euros!! And that must be a bargain 6 days left! I don't know a thing about flutes but something tells me if its going to command a price such as that keyless... it probably should not be altered pinned or screwed in anyway!
Re: Olwell, Keyless African Blackwood flute - for sale
Gorgeous flute! Used to play an Olwell like it that I borrowed off a teacher of mine so that it didn't sit around unplayed... but had to give it back eventually. Would love to bid, but have no money! Hope it goes to a good home!

This Olwell flute deserves a good owner who will play it regularly. It begs to be played and I hate to see it lie idle (it’s currently been kept played-in by a friend). I’ve put it up for auction on e-bay and if you have any questions do contact me. http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270487197990&_trkparms=tab%3DSelling#ht_500wt_1182
Apologies to all to whom this may not be of interest.

Is it a musical instrument, or an investment commodity?
If it's the latter, don't ever bother playing it. Wrap it in shrinkwrap.
