Instead of these vague passive-aggressive trolls on here, why not send a long passive-aggressive letter to Comhaltas, asking them all your questions and venting your pent-up (and possibly justified) suspicions?
For my part, I reckon there are some big names who talk some terrible pompous sh*te at times, and make outrageous claims, and I find that all great fun. Their playing is all I actually care about in the end, and especially in the case of Mr MacM that is quite brilliant (I think Mr Tansey lays on the ornamentation too much). Despite the personality flaws? Because of them? Totally unrelated? I haven't a clue.
I very vaguely remember radio interview with him saying he won the World Championship (?) of piping when he was 17or 18 .He played a double jig live and said it was a tune he had played for his title .( I may be totally wrong here, I quite often am )
A fella I had a few tunes with last night seems to think Finbar won the under 18 competition in Swinford in 1961 or Mullingar in 1963. Wouldn't 1963 would be the same year James Keane won the U18 box title?

The first time I heard the Uilleann pipes in the flesh was about 1965. That was Finbar Furey, who was introduced as All-Ireland Piper.

Just because you are popular and successful does not mean you have passed the judges' criteria.
They're great ones for the craic, the Fureys !

Re: When did Finbar Furey win The All Ireland
You got me curious, too, so I went to Wiki (Oops!), and checked their list of All-Ireland Fleadh champions since 1951.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_All-Ireland_Fleadh_Champions
Must be the wrong list, because Mr. Furey seems not to be found.
It cannot be that some scroundrel has misrepresented the man, can it?

Re: When did Finbar Furey win The All Ireland
Since James Keane never won a Senior All-Ireland title, that's an easy question to answer.
More puzzling is why Bag of Spuds felt the need to change is monicker to 'Lord Gordan' so rapidly.

Well, the tinker, for one.

Me, for two.

Is it just me or are the levels of rudeness of this site escalating quite considerably lately?
