alternative resourses for finding usefel info about active sessions?
this has got nothing to do with thesession.org, which as we all know is a fastastic resource for finding useful, and of course up to date information on active sessions.
what alternative (on line) resources do you know of that might help you find active sessions when away from home.
- or even when you are at home; i find that the grapevine doesnt bear much fruit in this regard.
Re: alternative resourses for finding usefel info about active sessions?
When I am traveling I always check here first. Then, I might post a question to the Cittern list or Irish Bouzouki list. I also check the archives for the IRTRAD list as people tend to post their about sessions.
I have also been able to find out about sessions by just googling Irish music and the name of a city and finding local websites from organizations, Irish bars, etc.
Re: alternative resourses for finding usefel info about active sessions?
I often get emails from session.orgers that are planning to head to SF to find out if the listings on this site are up-to-date, and if there are any new sessions that have popped up.
Re: alternative resourses for finding usefel info about active sessions?
Reason I asked about where you live is that I started a yahoo group (these are clunky but free!) as an experiment in online communities. As it happened, no one took this up for about three years, then all of a sudden it started filling up with gigs! So now we have an active, and actively-managed group.
What I learned was that these collaborative groups work well when there are at least two people who are passionate enough to become editors / moderators. And also that you have to require people be approved before they join otherwise you just get spammed by time-wasters.

It covers the Cotwsolds in the UK (roughly, Gloucestersrhire / Worcs / Oxon and occasionally further afield). It's at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/TraditionalMusicCotswolds/
