http://archive.comhaltas.ie/search?tab=tracks&q=redican Click on "Monaghans." Familiar, but haven't found it in various books or through the usual Google, or cuing up my set dance LPs from John Doonan or Sean Maguire or Eugene O'Donnell.
Those archives are chock full of enticing stuff too. Pity it's all in 30 second snips, would be great if they sold it a track at a time like iTunes.
That's it: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1439 Thanks for the help. I notice that the Old Blackguard on the Derrane/O'Brien record is actually the Maid Behind the Bar/Little Judy/Green Mountain. I don't have the Irish All Stars record, must hunt that down.
Those other set dances Larry plays are nice as well...actually captured the audio for his tracks here, brief as they are. Years ago a friend and I hunted down everything we could find of Redican - it amounted to something like 15 cuts. Great fiddler.
Ah, I've got that one, courtesy of my piano according friend who doesn't care much for their playing! "Too bubbly" I believe was the verdict. I let it slide - love that Kimmel/Derrane wall of sound myself. My friend's great at the keyboard and bass buttons too.
Just noticed that on my copy of "Irish Accordion Masters" the titles for the Old Blackguard and Orange & Blue & Little Judy are mixed up, hence my comment. Thanks for the discographical details! Didn't realize IAM includes all the Irish All Stars material. Very handy.
Larry Redican had names and titles for almost every tune.He also had historical information on the music. Who is responsible here for selecting the tracts. It should have been someone with knowledge and experience. The standard here does not represent Larry"s wonderful fiddle playing.
Title for a set dance from Larry Redican

Re: Title for a set dance from Larry Redican
In the sleeve notes Jackie Small says "The sprightly Barn Dances were recorded in the early fifties by Joe Derrane....."
