Hey Greg,
How's all over in your neck of the woods? It must be starting to get cold by now... If you figure out who I am, say hello to the rest of Calgary's session-goers for me
A bit I ago I was chatting with a couple I met in the pub. He was Irish (she wasn't) and though a bit younger than me, appreciably past his first youth, about which he began fondly to reminisce.
"Well, my friend and I saw this plane in a field, so we just got in it, like, and started it up -"
"What, just like that? Did it start?"
"Sure, we took off."
"How old were you then?"
"About twelve. Anyway, we didn't know what to do next."
"So what *did* you do?"
"We just flew it into a lake and got out and left it there".
The matter-of-factness in the way he told this was compelling. I don't believe he was lying. It is entirely consistent with all that I have heard about this guy since!
Though I don't suppose he's been a pilot for Aer Lingus, or even Ryanair.
Gzeg, how are things? I saw some videos from Water Valley 09 and it looked like a good time - wish I could have stayed around for the summer. The pipes are not coming along at all - I got so frustrated with trying to fix reed and bag issues that I just had enough and put them to one side. In the meantime I've totally lost any desire to learn to play them.
I'm starting to become a bit obsessed with melodeons and C#/D boxes, but I'm not sure yet if I want to try learning to play them. Maybe I should just focus on the whistle!
The concertina is fine thanks - I'm getting a few tunes under my belt. Grego says it sounds ok, but I know he's just humouring me after what I said about the banjo.
Taking your bearings
Taking your bearings
For those of you piloting a commercial airliner right now, please cast a glance out the window and make sure you haven't overshot your destination.
(Just in case you got absorbed in the "shoulders of giants" thread or some such thing...)
Thanks for your attention.

Re: Taking your bearings
Hey LowWhistler, we miss you in the Joyce! We did find a replacement, though - a fine fiddler from Clare - so don't feel too bad for us.

Cold - no... Just the usual cocktails by the pool with a warm breeze blowing through the palm trees.

Re: Taking your bearings
At least in the Joyce you get kept warm by those giant TVs overhead....

Re: Taking your bearings
Whatever happened to the good old days of pilots overshooting their destinations because they were p*ssed? Times do change.

Blimey. That's got to be the most intriguing thread starter I've seen ever seen here. Wonderful.
Except that if you hijack it, the automated CIA elecronic moles will mark your identity for ever.
AAggh doh ... That's me shagged

Re: Taking your bearings
Giant TVs, midget TVs. .. size doesn't matter.
In the end, aren't they all just crossdressers?
