Whenever I take my guitar on Ryanair I book an extra seat for it - a lot safer as it never leaves your side, and if you are getting a good price on the tickets, it's usually cheaper than booking it in as luggage!
I don't know if you can do this with more than one instrument, but hopefully the Ryanair website could tell you.
but i heard an airport worker say that now so few people now check in luggage on ryanair, that they have reduced the number of staff involved in un/loading the luggage onto planes...
which means that checked luggage is much more likely to be manhandled - the staff member i heard talking about this basicly said bags were regularly thrown from one end of the hold to the other.
this was on bbc radio 4 today program a few weeks ago
i wouldnt check in an instrument on ryanair.
btw, i think if you travel through security with both instrruments, you should for once call it a zouk to make your life easier......
Re: Ryanair charge? Don't Give the Fascist Your Money, We're Better Than That!
Ryanair gave half a million euros to the Irish govermnent to force through the Lisbon constitution, and soon Ireland will no longer be a democratic state. Why give them money? O'Leery is Anti-workers rights, anti-democratic, pro-militarism, pro-arms trade, enemy of the disabled, hater of musicians, the list goes on. He has been instrumental in funding the militarist and anti-democratic agenda in Ireland, damning Europe to the same fate against their wishes. Don't fly with these swine!
Well Id be tempted to make one large parcel well padded with foam and stuff, so is a double case, 30e.
you hear all sorts of stories, I put a elec/bass in a soft case with a plank of tongue and groove down both sides, no problem fine. If its well padded , well packed, weight is not a problem for check in.... maybe a piece of ply on both sides as well....
"so few people now check in luggage on ryanair, that they have reduced the number of staff involved in un/loading the luggage onto planes"
That may be true of Ryanair hubs like Dublin - I don't know - but Ryanair staff do not handle baggage at airports like Aberdeen. It's the same baggage handlers as handle all the other airlines' baggage.
However I can confirm the rumours about Michael O'Leary tossing baby bouzoukis into the air and catching them on his bayonet
bren, the airline still have to pay for the baggage staffs services, whether employed directly or indirectly, they request how many staff are used for un/loading each aircraft.
on the subject of booking seats for instruments, i cant see why you cant buy one seat and make the guitar and BZ both sit on it.
i have never tried this.
Excellent idea rumpole, So Dennis, you wanna give it a go? Ive never done this for an instrument, how do you go about booking a spare seat for a gtr? mine has no passport etc...
Ryanair charge?
Ryanair charge?
What do they charge for carrying an acoustic guitar and a bouzouki both in cases to Cork?
Anyone know the rough figure?

Re: Ryanair charge?
Ah, I'll just take the guitar and buy it a seat. Easiest.
Guess I can borrow a bouzouki for the night, though I hate using someone elses gear.
Thanks people.
