Just love this comment heard about the new Thursday night session at the Gaelic Club Sydney:
"The new Gaelic Club session took off last night. There were over 30 people there with instruments, and there was a real buzz to it.
Starting with a slow session at 7, and more experienced musicians joining in from 8 onwards, actually worked quite well. I think we’ve established world’s best practice."
Sounds like a sea change for the old club. Ironically, it doesn't seem to have been a particular centre for the music for a few decades or so, but with the recent change of focus, sounds like it might become the ticket.
Anyway, now a primary focus for visiting musicians to Sydney wanting a few tunes with the locals. Long time coming, guys, well done.
and it was brilliant! Great place too as anyone there is actually there for the music. Well done to the team for getting this up and running - Sydney needed another sesh...
Good on 'em, Didge. If I lived just a bit closer, I would stop by for a few tunes myself. (Although if they had 30 players, that might be "Coals to Newcastle"--if that's understandable. Remember, I'm a Yank with barely a working knowledge of Brit-speak, not nearly fluent. And I don't speak Ozzie at all.)
No problem, FT, I'm sure they would teach you Ozzie pretty quick.
I'm really looking forward to the renaissance of this club. There is a really innovative core of people there now, and I think the club will see some of its best ever days in coming years. Glad it survived to see the day.
