I'm not on any other forum site, so this is the only place I can vent my disgust at the dole.
They didn't pay me today. I signed on the other day, but they didn't pay me. It's a bleedin disgrace.
Oh, and I know that these discussions have to be trad related, so here's the link. Without me dole, I've no money to buy strings r get pissed at a session.
Panhandle for a tin whistle, it's only the price of a large kebab and probably better for you if you put it in your mouth.
Busk with it, paying particular attention to yummy mummies with small kids, who are remarkably likely to be overcome with sentiment and send an offspring tottering over with coinage. This has been my experience. You might pull. This has not been my experience.
At the end of the day, count your takings and decide what to do with them. You could always buy a bottle of White Lightning or something and put your strings in it, to see which ones dissolve and to get more of the ones that don't.
...Just be careful about busking whilst on the dole - you could get done for benefit fraud, even if they haven't payed you your dole money. Necessity may or may not be seen as a valid defence.
Provided you do less than 16 hours busking a week, though, and declare all your takings, you should be OK.
Count yerself lucky, if you lived up here you wouldn't be able to get p*ssed or buy strings even if they did pay you. And hark the advice of Red Robin, the fat cats and greedy b astards have ruined the country. Bring on the revolution, I'm ready, ARE YOU?
Red Robin makes it sound as if the budget will involve mountains of small change being given out by the government to shoppers on every high street, or some equal measure of unexpected generosity that might benefit buskers.
But I expect he means the government will be cutting back some.
That would mean, we might all be buskers, but we'll be doing it for free. Or at any rate, getting less from the cash-strapped populace.

The government probably doesn't know, for that matter.
I believe the appropriate strategy is to take your father's red braces to a Capel St moneylender
Alternatively if you go down to Monto town , you might get a drink for nothing

You can also use the White Lightning as a solvent to clean some of the grease and grime of your old strings, and get a little more life out of them.
