E and G rolls on anglo concertina

E and G rolls on anglo concertina

Hi guys, how are you?
I'd like to find out how to do E and G rolls on C/G concertina. I'm learning the second of the 2jigs played by Breda Shannon down here (she's great!), but I don't really understand some of the ornamentations she does. Damn!
Hope you can help me, as always.

Re: E and G rolls on anglo concertina

Hello death (?).Most rolls on the left side of the concertina are executed by playing two notes on the right. So the roll for both E and G would be the high D and the C on the right side middle row struck in sequence very quickly- to use the well worn expression- in a percussive way. However if you watch Breda Shannon playing the first jig you will see her reach out with her right hand and tap the side of the concertina. This is another way to get the note to "roll". Hold the note, say E in, but with as little finger pressure on the button as possible, tap the concertina on the right and let the E button sort of bounce under your finger. Then play another of the same note and that will give you the roll sound. This can be done on all notes on the left side if you don't want to use the two note system or if you want a different sound.Hope this helps

You can also kind of blip the button a few times
by using two fingers. It's the same effect as running
your hand along a picket fence, but in reverse

I can do this on a Rochelle, but I'm sure it would go better on a
more posh instrument.
