So What country would that be in then?

Re: Looking for tune players.

Well seeing as the guy is in Byron Bay my natural assumption would be Australia - as that is where Byron Bay is!

Re: Looking for tune players.

I think the lesson there is that a nice climate and nice beach
are not sufficient. After about 1 month the novelty wears off and you're
bored out of your mind. Better to visit the beach but live in
civilization. In Australia, that's going to give you a choice of
maybe five or six regions if you want decent sessions. Of
course coming from Ireland, your definition of 'decent' might
rule out all of them except maybe for Melbourne or on a good
day Sydney.

Re: Looking for tune players.

With all due respect, Hup, "B*llix!"

I'm in Nimbin, 30 mins from Lismore, about an hour and a quarter from Byron. Give him my number if he's game to meet up over here and I'm sure we can give him enough tunes to keep him happy. There's a few tunies lurking out here in the bush. :-)

Re: Looking for tune players.

No direct help for your friend here, but the Brisbane based Folk Rag calendar sometimes lists events around the border area. http://users.tpg.com.au/folkrag/folk_rag_frameset.htm
He might be able to meet players at one of them.

Re: Looking for tune players.

Hey Hup, we have been known to have the odd good session here in the west as well. Don't completely write us off. When Mick Doherty is in town he fires it up big time.

Donough - Perth was one of the '5 or 6' I had in mind. I only wish that
during my nine years living there, I had discovered my interest in the Tunes. Living in Quinn's Rocks for the last 2 years of that time,
I realized living near the beach is overrated.

Re: Looking for tune players.

Some very fine ITM exponents chose Nimbin as home, the late Jacko Kevans as one for instance, Ollie Foster and many more in them thar hills. High times indeed duijera doodle!

Re: Looking for tune players.

Well then, it sounds like it might be a good place for a festival, doesn't it, mcdooall.
Yes, I met Jacko a number of times down in Sydney.
Hey, mcdooall, I got a *really great* bodhran over in duijera doolin, in Clare - you know? - everyone comments here on how good it is.
Made by Dave Spencer over there in Doolin. I could strongly recommend them. Would you, mcdoole?
Didn't have any problem bringing it back through Australian customs either.
