Re: try to find 'commonalty' recording

Sorry maracirac, I was merely being flipant. No offence intended.

There's a TV advert in the UK where a bloke searches high and low for a particular book. When he eventually tracks down a copy, we discover that he is the author. JR Hartley.

Re: try to find 'commonalty' recording

Marin,

Llig was making a joke that will make sense to people in the uk but probably confuse anyone else.

The joke refers to a classic tv advert from the 1983s for "the Yellow Pages". An old man is looking for a book "Flyfishing, by JR Hartley".

He finally locates for a copy and asks for it to be sent to "JR Hartley" and looks delighted.

It was a very well done, quite touching advert in its day and its success can be judged by the fact that people still reference it twenty six years later. In fact a book "flyfishing by JR Hartley" was actually published after the advert to tray and take advantage of its success.

The (short) advert can be viewed here

Re: try to find 'commonalty' recording

I am afraid I don't have the Commonality recording but I am sure someone will be able to help.

Re: try to find 'commonalty' recording

Hi. As far as I know, they only released a limited number of copies on cassette in the run up to the Belfast Folk Festival. It's a great recording and would probably do well if it was re-released.

Marin

I have just noticed this discussion. I played with Commonalty and I lost the recording of the about 15 years ago. A friend of mine, Tom, kindly gave me a digital recording of it this year. I think it must have been remastered as it sounded a lot better than I remember it. If you want a copy leave a message here.
