Local Comhaltas festival has got Frankie coming on Sept 18th and they got no name of his backer sent on yet , I am MC and just wondered who travels with him now ,has any board members ,seen him in the last months.
2 years ago at the Nyah festival ,it was Tim Edey on Guitar ,and together were great on stage .
I heard it ws Galvin as well, he was recently accompying Niamh Ni Charra around the place, seen them in Portloise she/he was absolutely crap as was the World Fleadh thingy as a whole.
Who's playin with Gavin I think whoever is iiling to take the traitors shilling to play in his sick De Dannan outfit.
Whats the problem with the De Danaan thing, that has so many of you upset?

My sister is married to Charlie Piggotts brother and they know nothing of it.
You mean Finn copywrites the name of a band he was in after its broke up ! thats what the fuss is about! Thats just sneaky.
DeDannan went through loads of lineup changes over the years.
Frankie Gavin,and his band. were it Frankie and Jackie, Id expect to see their band. Honestly Finn put me off DeDannan. I know that will encourage howls of outrage [ full moon tonight] but thats my opinion. I also couldnt be arsed with the beatles covers... yuck.
Im a backer, and Im a fiddler so I play in both positions.
Its a funny one, I've no idea why he would want to use the old name? business not so good these days?
Im very specific about who gets credit, paid , etc etc etc all band organisational things which I am very familiar with.
I consider a band name to associate with the original band members equally. but thats my personal opinion and n this case the line up has changed a lot, a lot. 2 constants I think , Finn and Gavin . But its still the lead players band IMO.
I would say that if the name was finn's idea , then fair enough, its his idea, his name. So who thought up the name?
I agree with Ionannas; if I see "De Dannan" on the marquee, I EXPECT to see Frankie Gavin! Perhaps Alec doen't have the luxury of perspective on this, but the fans do. And I'm pretty sure that most of them would agree that De Dannan would still sound like De Dannan without Alec Finn. Referring to Ringo's comments about Frankie not being his first choice for a fiddler, that sounds suspiciously like a personal problem with Frankie, rather than a completely honest musical opinion. If you've a "beef" with Frankie, that's fine, (I've heard a great many horror stories about him being difficult/ intimidating to work with, truth be told) but within the constrarints of the "De Dannan Sound", THERE IS NO OTHER FIDDLER ALIVE WHOSE STYLE WOULD WORK IN DE DANNAN! End of discussion.
