It's with much regret I have to report the death of a fine banjo player and, perhaps more importantly, a true musical gentleman. The piece below is taken from the Comhaltas website:-
"Comhaltas is sad to report that the death has occurred of David Robert Beaumont Simpson of Canada, Omagh, Co. Tyrone and Mount Merrion, Dublin.
After a long illness. Deeply regretted by his loving wife, Angela, sons Paul, Patrick and Mark, daughter Catherine, grandchild Frances, relatives and friends."
Anyone who attended the Monkstown sessions down through the years will know David and appreciate his unassuming approach to playing in the session. A very competent player, he would never attempt to dominate the proceedings but his musical contributions were always much appreciated by all present and he'll be sadly missed from the mid-week and Friday night sessions. He also had a strong interest in bluegrass and other related musical genres.
David Simpson RIP
