Mini Strato Octave Mandolin conversion

Mini Strato Octave Mandolin conversion

I recently converted a child's mini-Strato electric guitar that I found at the town transfer station to a 4 string octave mandolin.

I reduced the width of the neck to mandolin size, removed 2 string saddles, reduced the number of tuners to 4, reworked the head stock to remove the extra tuner holes, put on 4 mandola strings and tuned in to GDAE.

Not that I'm into electric mandolins but once plugged I into a friends amplifier it sounded great.

Anyone interested seeing the octave mandolin conversion, I will gladly e-mail a photo

Re: Mini Strato Octave Mandolin conversion

I recently took the neck off an old guitar found in a skip and tried to make a "petrol can mandola", i however am not willing to send any photos as it is one project of mine which never really worked, the string tension was too much for the brace even though my design seemed good on paper.
I also made the mistake of using a can that had contained moulding resin which stunk.
I'd love to see the shots you took,
