Éigse Week in Tullamore - Anything to Report?

Éigse Week in Tullamore - Anything to Report?

My own experience last night was one of a small session (3 fiddles, a box plus piano accordion). We found a corner at the back of the Bridge House Hotel for what was one of the best sessions I've experienced for some time. From what I've heard there have also been some good tunes in Bob Smyth's but I'm just curious to know what else has been going on.

There's more than 40 teachers so I can't list them all. A few I've seen around were Micheál Ó Raghallaigh (concertina), Danny Mahony (box), Dean Warner (piano box), Paddy Ryan and John McHugh (fiddles), Kieran Hanrahan (banjo), Eamonn Cotter (flute). You can catch up with all of them in the final concert on Friday morning in Tullamore College at 10.15am which is free of charge!!!

As for sessions I went back to the same spot last night where there must have been more than 20 musicians but was still fantastic - just proves something we've discussed here at length that "size doesn't matter".

I am in the concertina classes, and the only male in the class. I'm also the only person over 15. Or 50 for that matter. And they are mostly better than me too. Still, its good to get lessons for once, and from a great player (Maura Walsh).

The recital yesterday afternoon started with Micheal O'Raghallaigh and Danny O'Mahoney and it doesn't get better than that.

All the young (some extremely young) musicians confirm a healthy ITM for some time to come...
