News has just broken that Ryanair is pulling 9 of its 10 routes from Manchester, including the one to Shannon, as from 1st October.

The ostensible reason given by Ryanair for pulling out is that Manchester Airport has refused to reduce its charges. A spokesman for Manchester Airport replied that it did not "believe that charges as low as £3 per passenger are unreasonable". "We've consistently cut our charges for the last 15 years even when faced with increased costs such as security," he added.
.
All I know is that several set dancing friends of mine make frequent trips to Co Clare via the Manchester-Shannon route, and this will no longer be possible from 1st October. The Irish economy will be the loser.

Could it be that people are getting sick of Ryan's shenanigans and gaming
If he ran a no games, safe, comfortable no-frills service, that took off and landed on time, he might make a few bucks.
