Anyone know about this fella and his bamboo flutes? cheap as chips. Pick up an F flute and a Bb Flute for under 100stg. ex shipping. Any of you well informed yanks rate these instruments? http://www.eriktheflutemaker.com/
My daughter gave me one of his Kokin flutes for Christmas (strange, Japanese, side-blown) - it has a lovely sound but really weird fingering so I haven't used it much. I deliberately didn't look to see how much she paid for it. It was made to order with beautiful decoration and shipped to Scotland quickly and safely so he's certainly got something going for him.
I used to live a few miles away from where he lives/works and he was very open to me coming over to have a look around before I bought anything. When I arrived he gave me a wonderful tour of his garden and workshop, telling stories about his travels and musical adventures. He grows the bamboo in his back garden and his workshop is very cool. He played each one I bought and they all sounded lovely. I especially like the starry nights ones..... sound good and have a unique look too. I have a number of his CDs.... beautiful stuff.
thanks for all the replys. Enda mate your a legend they look like just the ticket..do they play well? il probably end up getting F n Eb maybe C. Roll on payday. Cheers.
They do. Play beautifully in fact. Easy sound and well in tune.. Also worth checking out his triple-flute/walking stick. Not sure how much use it'd be, but you'd never be stuck for a conversation starter...
Used for making silly noises. Kind of a swanee/flute made from adjoining section of bamboo, and backing on while remaining seperate from the main body of the flute. Visually pleasing from a balance point of view. Musical value...

Erik looks like the real deal too. Mite get onw from him in time also. His bamboo saxaphones are quite interesting. Would get a laugh at a session.

Re: Erik the flute maker
Also, if you go for a bamboozle flute, make sure to choose the 'silly-hole option'. Pointless but fun...
