Reminds me somewhat of a miming fiddler that turns up to some of our local sessions. Sure, he always has the thing under his left jaw, and he can be seen moving his bow up and down in time with the music ...
... But no-one has ever actually heard him play a note!
I reckon that one day (by prior agreement, but without telling him) that we should all come to a sudden halt right in the middle of a tuneset.
I can just picture the expression on his face if we decided to do just that!
We had a bodhran player just like that used to turn up at the sesh every week for years. Several times I sat right next to him and never heard a beat. I was always sure the tipper never touched the skin...
Craobh Rua performed here several years ago in the bar at a local so-called Tex-Mex restaurant. It was an enjoyable performance and I think it was definitely worth the time and the money.

I suspect he plays banjo and/or guitar. He looked most comfortable with them and may have been fingering real notes on them.
