.......and pointless, the moderator will just delete them. People should vote with their pockets and not buy any new CD's or attend any concerts. Same goes for that muppet McMahon.

Paramount, where did I say to write anything insulting? Cop on yerself.

Re: The New De Dannan

So why did he not even ask Alec Finn to play in the new De Dannan? Why not a word? That's just mean, and that guitar player they have is as second rate as anyone.... certainly second rate compared to Alec Finn. Just because not many bouzouki players reproduce his sound doesn't mean he isn't the best bouzouki player in Irish music.... The new De Dannan is half magic, not double magic like back in the day.

Re: The New De Dannan

I'd hazard a guess that the new members might not be getting paid quite as much as the original members might have expected to get in a reunion band.

But in any case, if you are going to try and make a living out of music, it'll be hard work if you try to be everybody's buddy. A friend of mine is in that position, and everybody takes advantage of him, expecting him to donate his considerable skills for free.

If you want to live in a nice friendly musical world, keep it strictly amateur. And dont be too hard on the professionals. A lot of people on this site probably make more than them doing very ordinary jobs.

Re: The New De Dannan

Yeah - and I'm not going to spend my ordinary-job pay packet to see a "De Dannan" that isn't De Danann.

It's not about money, which is another issue altogether. It's about honesty - to their audiences, and to the original band members (the real ones) who worked their balls off building up that name.

Re: The New De Dannan

Would you shell out the same kind of money for a band called "Alec Finn and Ye De Dannan of Olde" , with all the original members except Frankie on the fiddle? I don't think so, but I've been told Frankie would not put up with this, and I don't think Alec would even do it. But legally, I suppose it is possible, being that Alec FInn owns the rights to the name. Also, why would they assume that they wouldn't get paid as much, when it is obvious that they would attract twice the crowd in a reunion band? The stink is really that Ringo wasn't getting paid properly.

Re: The New De Dannan

Would I shell out the same kind of money for a band with all the original members except Frankie on the fiddle? Yes, I would. There are other fiddlers in the universe.

> I've been told Frankie would not put up with this...

Then why should Alec put up with it?

Ringo said he turned the underpaying gig down, so he didn't get paid because he didn't do it. But I agree with you, that stinks.

Re: The New De Dannan

Greed is greed.

Deceit is deceit.

And business is business.

I can only surmise that Gavin thinks none of this makes any difference to anyone who matters.

Dead Dannan - Rest In Peace.

Re: The New De Dannan

Have to agree that the "new de dannan"is a Gavin money making event and the name FG and the New is purely a legal manouvre to keep DE Dannan to the forefront.,personally I wouldnt pee on them if they were on fire.I seen Gavin and Co in Ballyshannon a few years ago when he tried to say it was De Dannan and of course the writs were flying and it had to b e readvertised as the Frankie Gavin band later followed by Boh Rap and now the new De Dannan.
Any body with trad blood in their viens will not be fooled.

Re: The New De Dannan

What really disappoints me is that without Richard, the magic of those old classics will never be repeated...

Re: The New De Dannan

It's all a bit pathetic really, Gavin might have been Number one, if there ever was a league of fiddle players, but he's not any more. I dont know who is, but I always think it's sad when someone realises late in life that it's all slipping away, and holding on to an image is the most important thing left.

Re: The New De Dannan

Hmm, the old De Dannan could sound just as good with Kevin Burke or Connor Tully come to think of it... though I wouldn't have thought so yesterday.

Who cares??

Re: The New De Dannan

I think Alec Finn, Johnny Ringo, Charlie Piggott. Jackie Daly and Dolores Keane should make a new Album and go back on the road and just call it DE DANNAN. I think Frankie Gavin has no right whatsoever to do what he is doing. At the end of the day Frankies reputation is the worst in the business for ripping people off and not paying people what they are due. He puts all the money in his own pocket.

Re: The New De Dannan

On another note the musicians in this New Band are not good. Wo is this Mike guy on guitar ?. Michelle cant sing and Eric Cunningham is a little business shark who has talked Frankie into all this with a new website and gigs everywhere.
Cunningham is the guy Alec Finn needs to sort out and he should do it fast with a top Music Solicitor like David Landsman. Cunningham can not play the whistle or the Bodhran. He is in the band as a Manager.
