advice for the 4th voice

advice for the 4th voice

Hi
i intent to change my box in the near (?) future. I want to buy one with 4 voices, but i have to choose between two models:
i can have: 3 medium octave voices + 1 low or 1 high+ 2 medium + 1 low. So i need advice.
As a clue, i can say that i can't bear the sound of players like James Keane, D Byrnes which seems to be trendy nowadays. I much prefer the kind of sound of the old Sopranis and players like Paddy O'Brien (the living one...in fact i've never heard the other one) and John Regan..
Thanks
Paul

Paul (this must be a world record for a thread hi-jack!) if you want to hear Tipperary Paddy O'Brien samples click here...in fact get the album - it's one of my favourites:

Paolo Soprani D/G

Paolo Soprani have made a D/G (which I believe is your system - I had a go on one last summer in Hobgoblin's central London shop. I imagine it will have gone by now

Re: advice for the 4th voice

in fact i feel almost ready to betray the D/G congregation, sorry Danny, and i intend to opt for a C#/D. I woud like the same model, The Saltarelle Shamrock, but i don't know about the 4 th voice. The D/G is L/M/M/M.

Re: advice for the 4th voice

C#/D is better as it's chromatic...and not much more difficult than D/G if you're already used to that system. Good Luck!

Re: advice for the 4th voice

I would go for one with a high set and a low.
The high set is useful for making concertina noises when you don't want to be too intrusive.
The low set is always amusing for making farting noises.
