Just back-- my first visit. I thought it was a great festival-- not too big and the standard of the musicians both at the classes and the sessions was mighty. Rumours that the arts council is pulling the plug on funding for future events -- Ennis trad fest, Corofin ? Willie Clancy is worrying.
'At the Racket ' kicked of the week with a great gig on Sunday night but my enduring memory was the session in the Welcome Inn when the dancers arrived after the Ceili and danced a set or two , some great sean nos dancing after that and a few songs as well. This all lifted the session to a higher level-- It was dawn when I walked home -- mighty night, great craic. Great week--- keep it quiet, it's a secret !!
I heard that John Carty's banjo class had 50 attendees in Drumshanbo this year! Is that true? If so it must be impossible to manage that number. If what I hear is correct its probably too late to 'keep quiet' as the secret seems to be well and truly out!
Seriously though it has a good name for all the reasons you mention and long may it continue. Hopefully the Arts Council will not pull its funding though they must be struggling with a reduced budget.
Ahem! - with ratios of 1:40 or 1:50, they shouldn't need any funding at all!! What cost would the classes be - say Euro 80? That'd be Euro 3000 + for just one class... who said anything about recession!

A great festival altogether. Didn't make it this year. Hope to be there next year.
