Trinity College mandola - year of manufacture ???

Trinity College mandola - year of manufacture ???

I recently purchased a used Trinity College mandola on eBay which has a Fleur-de-lis inlay on the headstock - not the normal Celtic cross or knot pattern seen on instruments imported to the USA.

With a serial number of 02091xxxxxx and that headstock inlay, can one assume it was manufactured in 2002? Or would the instrument been produced prior to 2002? If so, what year might it had manufactured? Could it be an earlier Korean made instrument and not manufactured in China?

Appreciate your input.

Re: Trinity College mandola - year of manufacture ???

I'd try asking the seller first for original date of purchase.
It would be nice to have a generic name for these instruments, here in the UK they are branded as Ozark - you figure it out. Are they now being made in China ? My Ozark 'zouk has a "Made in Korea" sticker on it, no serial number I've seen, but then I wasn't looking for one, it's hardly like a Martin that you would normally like to know the year of manufacture.
Other people do knock these brands of instruments, but I find them generally well-set-up and good overall quality for the price; if you want to go to individually hand-made then obviously there is a leap in quality, but price too.

Re: Trinity College mandola - year of manufacture ???

To answer your question, the ones now being imported by Saga Instruments to the USA are made in China.

I bought the instrument described as a Trinity College MANDOLIN on eBay.

When it arrived at my home it was really a 17 inch scale MANDOLA. I questioned the seller but she had no idea what the instrument was so put it on eBay as a mandolin because it looked like a mandolin. It has the Trinity College internal label and a serial number. It made be an earlier Korean made model.

For what I paid for it, I plan to kept it as it is in great condition and sound OK to me.
