skotil is my wee boy Fergus, who joined us (our local session from the Blythe) on bodhrán, up on stage at a local festival gig recently. Of course I will say how great he was but really I was impressed by how unfazed he was to be playing in front of an audience. And he even managed to keep the beat most of the time
Fergus was indeed unfazed. I know because I was sitting next to him. I was playing the fiddle. It was (more or less) my first gig. I have conveniently forgotten how old I am but I am not six. It was really good fun and a shame that we only got to play for half an hour. I don't think Fergus was too impressed with my fiddling though.
Nice job, Fergus. I'm glad to hear about your gig. My kids are learning this music, too, and they can't wait to perform for people. (They are 6, 9, and 11 - fiddle, whistle, guitar. The other one who is 5 doesn't play anything yet.) It is so great that your dad's friends enjoy playing with you! Hope you have lots of fun and many more gigs.
Danny I was wondering how the little feller was getting on, and now I know.
Keep him at it. Next thing is a whistle. My kids both started to play whistle at about 8 years old.
My little boy is now 23, and is a very good concertina player, and we play in various line ups together. My daughter is a piano teacher, and also a ballet school accompanist. She is very popular with the ballet teachers because she can produce a tune from her head instantly without having to hold up the pupils while she finds dots.

Hi Danny and Fergus,
