Hello everybody, my name is Guy Roelofs and i'm the guy selling the bouzouki. I see there is some confusion about the bouzouki. The one thats for sale is this one: http://sobell.guyroelofs.nl
The other bouzouki mentioned is a ten string bouzouki converted into an 8 string. (Not a 'wounded beast' in my opinion. Put the two missing tuners back, replace the nut and bridge for the original ones and voila........) This one is not for sale!
You can have a listen to the bouzouki if you would like to know how it sounds.I have posted some soundclips of the bouzouki.
One is the backing to a Dutch traditional song called 'De zwarte ruiter' and the other is two parts of a Bulgarian tune called 'Sandansko Horo'.
Shouldn't be a problem re-jigging it back to a ten stringer.
It looks like the top two tuners have just been taken off and a new 8 slot nut made.
Probably had a new 8 slot floating bridge made as well - I wouldn't mind betting that the tuners/10 slot nut and bridge are still in the case!
As it happens I know someone who has 15(ish) Sobell instruments - guitars 6 & 12 string, Citerns, Bouzoukis, Tenor Mandolas, Octave mandolas and Mandolins and they are ALL
totally trashed! kept in a damp basement in a desert (no joke) and all the necks are warped to F*@k.

Re: sobell bouzouki
Hi dafydd,
Are there two different Sobells in the above links?
Some of the pics seem to be of a 10 string Sobell Cittern made into an 8 string bouzouki?
What year was it made?
# Posted on July 17th 2009 by seaniemcg
and why would one do this ?
Would reduce its value I think and what damage has been done.

Re: sobell bouzouki
Hmmm.....
I would turn it back into a ten stringer and then try and sell it...
Could add about another grand to it if the rest is in v.good shape...

Re: sobell bouzouki
wounded beast in my opinion, for that sort of money would not want a cittern made into a zouk . Get a brand new Foley or Crump for that money.
