It's been circulating for some time, but I know a lot of people might not have it.
This is generally believed to be the first recording of the band and its clarity suggests that it was taken from the soundboard (staffed at the time by Dónal's brother Phelim). I've seen claims that this was the band's first gig under the Bothy name, though there's no evidence for that, but the rawness of the sound, the repertoire, and the fact that it's Paddy Glackin on fiddle means it's probably a very early recording (yep, I know he depped for Tommy later).
Here's the track listing:
01 Jackson's/Paddy Clancy's (2:55) faded in
02 Intro (:42)
03 The Blackbird - two versions (4:58)
04 Intro (1:29)
05 The Banks of Claudy (7:03)
06 Intro (:45)
07 Micho Russell's/Kimmell's (3:04)
08 Intro (:42)
09 Martin Wynne's/Miss Johnson's (2:29)
10 Intro (:32)
11 Miss Monaghan's (2:15)
12 Reels (faded in) (3:14)
13 Intro (:25)
14 Hornpipe (2:27)
15 Intro (1:03)
16 The Sailor Boy (3:37)
17 Intro (:24)
18 Sherlock's (jig & reel) (2:50)
19 Intro (:23)
20 The High Level/The Cork Hornpipes (4:01)
21 Applause (1:09)
22 Col. Frazer (1:13)
23 Intro (1:22)
24 March (3:05)
25 Intro (:29)
26 The Green Groves of Erin/The Flowers of Red Hill (faded out) (1:25)
For some reason these titles don't show up in the correct order on iTunes, but RealPlayer organises them correctly.
I know all too well about the illegal downloads and a small victory has been won against one particular site today. I've also always been in two minds about bootlegs. On the one hand, the 'booted' musicians gain nothing while those who make the bootlegs commercially available reap the rewards. However, sometimes there are live recordings which just capture the moment and my gut feeling is that these should be shared (and I don't think this Bothy Band recording has ever been sold over the counter, though there used to be a very dodgy shop in a basement on Wicklow Street which had racks and racks of bootleg cassettes).
Sadly, it won't be the case that any Bothy Band members benefit financially as a result of downloaders here subsequently buying the band's albums, since the rights were sold down the pan a very long time ago.
Apologies for pulling it, but I decided to edit the tag information so that the tracks appear in the right order on MP3 players and related programmes. I also wanted to tinker with the sound on a couple of tracks, but couldn't improve what was there.
Thanks Dee and to Floss. I had to download Dee's upload as sendspace is problematic for me sometimes. For instance, the download stopped in error at 35mg with sendspace. I can usually perservere and get it eventually. Dee's worked OK.
Good intentioned or not, your didn't have the courtesy to ask me whether it was OK to provide a mirror site. I've asked you (via PM) to remove the link from your mirror and you haven't done so.
So, I'm now asking you again, and publicly, to remove the mirror link.
Ok mate, I've deleted it. I meant no harm, I just know myself and a few friends have problems with sendspace sometimes so thought I'd make another link for anyone who had the same problems. In hindsight I should have said something to you first so apologies for that.

Just downloading it now, thanks for the link. There's a whole load of legal Irish stuff on the web and unfortunately loads of illegal stuff too.

Thanks, Strayaway,

Blimey, I got it just in time then. I had to download a program which will open .RAR files before I could hear it. I'm not good at this stuff.
