Just discovered a new web resource - when a friend sent me a link - for learning an english trad tune, (Barham Down).
I then 'joined' and submitted "College Groves" --as a 'test'. Found it very easy to edit - simply 'pulling' notes around, and some copy and paste. I've never really learned ABC - so prefer this method. Here is the link:
Also used the highly recommended 'free' / open source 'Musescore' software -to import the midi, from 'thesession' download - then export into "music.xml' that can be imported into 'noteflight'.
(I edited bars 15, 23, 31 to a run that sounds more correct to my ears, and removed some 'decoration' that wasn't working. When I have time, I maysee if I can add some convincing triplets).
A search on the Noteflight site for 'traditional' currently only reveals a handful of tunes. Would be good to see many more.
Currently -no 'tempo' control - but one is planned. Will make it an even more useful resource for tune learning.
Re: Noteflight website for tune sharing / learning
My source of the notes was as 'tunes' section of 'thesession'. However, my inspiration was a recording from a session in Ennis ( being played relatively fast).
However, a 'relative' beginner / slow learner, I need something to 'get the bones' of a tune - so whatever is posted on 'thesession' is usually my starting point - followed up by playing along with a slightly 'slowed down' recording - (when I have access to a decently played version).
I see on the 'tunes' posting --there is an abc transcription of a Kevin Burke version -perhaps this is significantly better ? I'm not familiar with abc, but maybe I aught to try to get to grips with it.
To my ears (and I'm not deaf - not completely) it certainly sounds close enough to remind me generally how /where the tune goes. However - not pretending anyone would want to play it to sound anything like the 'midi' sounds of the audio !

Hi, Col Arco.
As i see there are other persons who'll benefit from finding ITM learning resources on the web.
Since many advanced and experienced players stress that one should learn by ear and by following the sessions, do you know any sessions video or audio recordings on the web?
It would be nice if some of the experienced musician would share their knowledge this way too...
