It is with great sadness i hear the passing of Pat Fnn ,Fairymount. ex liverpool ceili band etc.
He was a great man and inspiration to many of us,,
A great craic at any session and a gentleman.
May he continue to play in that great concert hall in the sky.
Very sad news. Pat was always a regular at the Fleadh Nua down through the years and many's the session we'd enjoy with him and the other Liverpool lads in the Queen's Hotel on the Monday mornings before everyone headed for home. He was always a real gentleman and made all levels of musician feel welcome in the session. Hopefully he'll now be able to join again in great music with the others such as Eamonn Coyne, Peggy Peakin and many more who've gone before him.
R.I.P. ~ It is a shame that the music of the band, the early LP, and of Pat Finn's flute and whistle playing, isn't more available. There used to be a YouTube of him playing, I think on the whistle, but I didn't manage to find it. If anyone can, that would be a good thing to add her, so folks can see and hear some of the spirit of this character. I also understand that Pat was a motivating force and founding member of the Comhaltas branch in Preston, Lancashire.
My old LP of the band is one of the earliest vinyl prizes I ever bought to add to our vinyl collection, which is currently in the care of others. I remember feeling a certain joy about how Pat played winds, and an appreciation... I also vaguely remember he had his own way with it, that it was quite distinct. I intend to reacquaint myself with that memory. I think I know someone with the LP I can go visit for an earful...
Pat Finn and the band must have given Liverpool and beyond many fine evenings of dancing...
"Pat Finn playing a few tunes at the seamus ennis festival Naul Co Dublin October 07 The first man into the session and the last one out mighty ...."
I must have been spelling it wrong or something, or semi-conscious, not enough espresso in me yet... Oh! ~ I just discovered why my searching was in vane... I hope you enjoy this little look in on the character and gentleman. Go raibh mile ma'agat Pat...

I can't see Pat Finn in the lineup, but I've been told he was in a care home up until his passing... These are his mates...

Re: Pat finn ............. Moved on
How sad.
Peadar was an inspiration to so many.
I never started playing till I was in my twenties and the Sunday afternoon sessions at The Liverpool Irish Centre were awesome.
The spirit of all those musicians was truly magnificent, and it was so evident that joy pervaded every note.
I remeber the Ceili Band were off to do play somewhere in Lancashire and Peadar asked if I was going to come along.
"I've only got a dozen tunes Peadar"
His reply, so typical and generous "Sure, that's enough!"
Now reunited with Roisin, he'll but up there playing with Eamonn Coyne, Spud Murphy and all those beautiful players in the Great Ceili Band upstairs.
Go raibh maith agat! Go dtuga Dia suimhneas dá anam!
