Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

I just wanted to publicly say in this forum what a wonderful, amazing job that Nicole Murray, John Thompson, Steve Cook and the others involved in this project have done in organising and executing the very first Maleny Celtic Winter School in the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.

It's still going this weekend, but from what I saw today it was amazing. The tutors were fantastic, insightful (even philosophical at times!) and very helpful. The whole vibe about it was great and even though I didn't get to the ceili or the session later, I'm sure it's going to be a huge success.

I hope you guys get to repeat this next year. bravo'

Re: Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

Geez I wish I was still in good old Brisbane...I'd be at Maleny right now. Great to hear there are more and more events in and around Brisbane. There are so SO many wonderful musicians and what a great time of year to have a gathering as well. This time of year in and around Brisbane is the most perfect weather.

Re: Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

It was a brilliant weekend. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everybody involved. The tutors were so enthusiastic and willing to share their great knowledge and Finbar's staff were excellent hosts. With so many ideas and tips shared it will take a while to absorb them all, but the seeds sown will certainly germinate.
It also turned out to be a chance to catch up with a number of folky friends that I hadn't seen for a while. Can we do it again next weekend? Please?

Re: Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

I was completely blown away with how good this weekend was. Not only great tutors, but great venues and and plenty of eager students ready to take it all in. I'm with "All Moldy"... it's a shame we can't do it again next weekend. :o)

Here's a short clip I captured late one night:

Thanks for the clip Davydd. Just from an observor's point of view that was a great session. Pat yourself on the back for hard work over the weekend too.

Re: Inaugural Maleny Celtic Winter School

Just got back last night - stuffed with the 'flu, but still had a great time. Ben's bodhran tutorial was a particular stand out for me - as was his (and many others') playing in the sessions.

The ceilidh was very well attended, with dancers filling the very large hall.

From the smile on John's face on Sunday arvo it will definately be on for next year. And there's rumours of box and concertina tutorials to be added to the list.

More power to their elbows!
