Is anybody going to the Handsonmusic thing in Witney in Oxon in two weeks time? It's called Plucking for Witney and is mostly for mandolins and things? There are two days of workshops and a concert on the Saturday night I believe. It would be good to meet up with more faces from The Session. For more details see hansonmusic.org.
Hi Paul. It will be good to meet up with you. I went along last year and if it is a similar format there is a session at the Court Inn Pub on Bridge Street in Witney on the Friday evening. Many of the students were there last year - plus a few of the instructors so there was quite a 'buzz' (and before anyone says anything that was not from the badly set-up necks on the fretted instruments!). I really enjoyed last year's workshop - I hadn't 'discovered' the mandolin at that time and I so I went to a couple of guitar classes. The weekend was very well structured and it was a joy to be amongst so many 'like minded' musicians. The Saturday concert alone was worth the trip.
If is not only 'plucked things' that Witney caters for - they have workshops for fiddles, melodeons, concertinas, flutes & whistles throughout the year - reasonably priced and usually excellent instructors. Witney is also a great town to visit and there are loads of 'quaint' Cotswold villages around there to see (not that there is much time for that with all of the music). Anyway enough of this tourist board stuff. Paul, see you at Witney, look forward to hearing about your 'Spanish' adventure and hopefully meeting up with other 'Session faces'. Cheers .... Bob
I was at Witney Concertinas this weekend and was surprised not to see any of you lot!!!
Sarah Daniels was Irish Tutor, I was a peasant and sat in on the Scottish course and anglo left-hand course (which seemed to attract a number of Irish players).
The Friday session was interesting, hearing ITM played on any concertina but anglo.
