Tunes in Bb

Tunes in Bb

I've posted that discussion a few days ago:
http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/21779
where I was asking for a G.A hornpipe in heard in Dmaj, and it seems now that the traditional tonality for it is Bb. It doesn't bother me (fiddle), but I don't want to play it alone for the rest of my life... :-) Cmaj & Fmaj are enough for that!
Is there any generally used key transformation for tunes in Bb?

the notes for President Garfield's mentions "G"

I can't think of any other tunes I know in Bb! We play The Banks in G occasionally though

Re: Tunes in Bb

well.... it depends on where it lies in the scale of Bb. i play laird of drumblair in Bb, but normally it's played in A, and sometimes G. so, if it is high in the scale, a tune should be put DOWN... to A or G. if it's low, as in goes down to the Bb below middle C, then you should put the tune UP to either C or D.

but to be safe, just learn all your tunes in Bb, low A, C, C#, D, Eb, high A, and Bb. that way you can play irish music with anyone anywhere, at any point in history (if you get a time machine), ;p
