Depends on the model of course and the individual banjo, but in general they are very nice. I've played a few silver bell's that sounded great.
Whether they are better than clareens is a matter of personal opinion, try both yourself and see what you like.
Very powerful tone, with loads of character. I preferred that over the Clareen Elite Gold I used to have: It's a matter of taste. I just prefer the old-school sound of the jazz era banjos over the modern more clear tone. No doubt that a Clareen is a very very good banjo - it's just a matter of what you prefer. I paid what would be equivalent to 1200 euros for it - all original condition.
I have seen a lot of different versions of the Super, with or without resonators, different pot sizes, and different variations on the tone ring. You might want to post pictures or a description of the one for sale to either the "shopping advice" or "collector's" forum at www.banjohangout.org for comments.
If it is really a bacon supper then 1400 might be steep.
