Levin Banjos

Levin Banjos

Anyone have any information on Levin tenor banjos. There were made in Sweden but I am finding it hard to get more than that. Also what was the quality like in these banjos.

Re: Levin Banjos

Hi Mr Pio Ryan; Levin was bought out by Martin of the guitar fame in the early seventies or there about. They made high end instruments, hence why martin bought them out in a bid to expand into europe with their own lines.

My late father's guitar is a Levin which reputedly cost £50 in 1961 or 2. Actually he gave it to me but I couldn't bring myself to take it. Instead I had it ref-retted and gave it back to him before he died.

No doubt martin guitar Co may have some info, but I'd say may be kevin at findajo may be able to help, either way it should be a quality instrument.

Re: Levin Banjos

This page details the history of the Levin banjos, unfortunately it's in Swedish.... The list of serial numbers may be of interest though.
