Gawd it's a chore putting these things on paper, or monitor. "[Sean Maguire] told me there are two things he dreads: going to confession, and writing a tune - I think I understand." Luke O'Malley, Collection of Irish Music.

Re: Not the Liffey Banks/A few words from Sean Maguire
These links must be overloading the site; I'll try again later for the Lad O'Beirne. Does he have enough recordings for someone to someday do an archive type cd?
I didn't id Vesey as doing Farrel O'Gara; I'm not sure who it is. The only thing on those I would guess on the Redican is that McGann is the second fiddler on the Narrowback. His recording of it as the Irish American is nearly identical and both sound like somebody got it out of Ryan's.
Yes, Hunter's House is the second tune. My confusion needlessly brought up the Streetplayer.

It's always nice to hear more of these guys.
Atlantic Wave is the first which is called Lad O'Beirne's on the Tribute to Larry Redican
So the Reavy tune was being played as a reel back in 1962.

Re: Not the Liffey Banks/A few words from Sean Maguire
It's the Streetplayer not Hunter's House which is the hornpipe played as a reel. So I mixed them up and my last sentence above doesn't make sense.

Ah, so right you are edl: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/962 And the verdict from Dow: "Boring." Quite the finicky eater, that guy.
That's John Vesey playing Farrel O'Gara, right? Had downloaded that and need to figure out who plays what.
'62? Here's Lad O'Bierne and Louis Quinn from '52, or before? http://www.filefreak.com/pfiles/247/Lad%20O%27Bierne%20and%20Louie%20Quinn%20-%20Reavy%27s%20Reel%2C%20Miss%20Johnson.mp3
Maguire recorded it in the 50s, too, to be heard on one of the reissues.
