Kerry Byrne's Hornpipe

Kerry Byrne's Hornpipe

Was trying to get a proper title for this tune, key of G. On both Kerry Fiddles and Irish Traditional Flute Solos And Band Music From Kerry And Tipperary it's called Byrne's, which of course here tracks back to the usual tune in D. Denis Murphy also recorded it as Welsh's on a 78, to be heard at http://www.tedmcgraw.com/recimages/fset2.html Its first few bars also remind me of O'Meally's hornpipe, recorded by R.L. O'M on an acetate which may be heard at Ross's Music Pages, http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/music/index.html But only those first few sound the same.

Anybody have an alternate title for this tune, or should I just call it the Kerry Byrne's or the like?

The first part also matches Shanahan's here on thesession:

Re: Kerry Byrne's Hornpipe

Thanks, Georgi! Looks to be a Munster tune, then.

Not to be confused with Shake it Up Shannahan, recorded long ago by Wicklow piper Sean O'Nolan: http://www.archive.org/details/ShaunONolanTheGildaRayShakeItUpShannahan

Nice tune and one I might transcribe at some point.
