Mastering

Anyone on here involved in CD mastering, duplication etc?
I'm looking to put a CD out and need a little help on the production front.

Re: Mastering

I do some mastering myself, but I'm not very good at it... I'm looking at getting my album replicated here in the next few months too.

Re: Mastering

I use Sony CD Architect - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/cdarchitect. It's very straighforward and the manual's pretty clear,

Re: Mastering

* Expect that the process will run overtime (i.e. start early).

* Use really cruddy monitors to master the tracks. Don't master on headphones. (see final comment)

* Digital is faster but learning curve is steeper.

* If you're going the digital route, save work regularly. Do not corrupt original tracks without first preserving them.

* Make alternate mixes if you can't decide which one you prefer.

* Test mixes on friends. Use different stereos for this, preferably better than the monitors.
