ITM Rocks

ITM Rocks

I often describe the insistent melody-driven propulsive ITM tunes as “rockin’”... because they are. However I’ve been taken to task by those outside the ITM pale, who say nay, often citing acoustic volume or instrumentation as nullifiers. Not to go ranting off into the void here, but when a tune is rockin’, it pulls people into the musical moment and takes them along for the ride, engaging the ears, brain, and body... at any volume or with any instrument... punters, too. Rant over - unless you can state your case to the contrary...

Re: ITM Rocks

I concur. It's just a case of vernacular. It rocks, it smokes, it cranks, for sure. Often in the midst of a mighty set, I actually feel the pub levitating off the ground.

Or maybe that’s just the pints. Feh, either way.

Re: ITM Rocks

It's just a continuation of the dance music of Baroque times and earlier - that certainly rocked.

Re: ITM Rocks

It was the rock-and-roll of Britain and Ireland until black music came into prominence with ragtime etc. in the late c19-early c20 - that's for sure.

Baroque was no slouch either. When Rock-and-Roll proper came along in the 50s and after, there was no classy but exciting parallel going on in contemporary Classical music, as was the case in the c18 - or if there was, I never heard it!

Re: ITM Rocks

If you have played this stuff for an assembly of schoolkids, you know it rocks.

No matter how Pixar- and Spongebob- and Wii-jaded kids have become, when they hear three or four ITM players launch into a jig they cannot STOP themselves from clapping along. They feel it, and they totally rawk out, dude.

Re: ITM Rocks

At times I get the Alan Freed syndrome and get the urge to chain smoke Lucky's cigarettes. And the worst part is when I begin to look in four directions at once. Curse you Mr. Freed!

Re: ITM Rocks

I agree, This music has a fierce energy running through it that makes most rock music seem slow and boring. That was one of the main things that atracted me to ITM. I also think that Adding a drum kit and doing 'Celtic rock' , in most cases, actually sucks away some of that energy.

Re: ITM Rocks

That is why I hate so called community pub sessions where percussion is not allowed. People politely drink and applaud and move on to another pub with LIFE.
