“The action plan based on ideas submitted by citizens to the Ideas Campaign includes several strong proposals for Irish economic and social progress. It was drawn up by the campaign’s Advisory Group and includes a list of priority actions for consideration by Government and groups (social, voluntary and business), as well as individuals.”
One of the ideas was to "Hold a Modern World Fleadh to showcase Irish culture and attract tourists” … “A big event such as a Modern World Fleadh would not only promote and celebrate Irish culture and attract tourists, but it could also raise spirits and create a positive focus for the nation.”
Sounds a great idea. Anybody know who is going to organise it? When is it going to happen? Are plans being drafted as I type? And what do they mean by ‘Modern’?
Ha Ha! .. a suggestion no doubt by some gobsh*te who has only a bare passing knowledge of the Irish trad scene.
And if think it would 'raise spirits and create a positive focus for the nation", they obviously haven't a clue as to what sort of music the average Irish citizen listens to.
I thought Eire already had an event with this name?.........
and its been discussed at length on this site previously . Harry Bradly being a big ......er... fan ..........or something like that.
The WORLD fleadh.. shock and awe tactics there.. Surely an american concept...
Anyone compete in the Irish Music World Championships recently..notice they wont be taking place again this year..or ever
