I plan to attend the willie clancy summer school this year. The only return flight i could get is 9am on Sunday. I doubt that there is bus service early am on Sundays. If anyone could offer me a ride from Miltown to Shannon airport, I'd be happy to compensate you. thanks
Re: I need a ride to Shannon after Willie Clancy week
Lord, you're very slow Mulligan. Did you ever hear Joseph O'Connors account (think it was him anyway) of travels in the USA and a bunch of Irish lads in the funfair getting a tour around with a presumably well endowed young American lady. The whole thing is a panic - she's continually asking them 'Would they like this 'ride' or prefer that one etc.' and they're just falling about the place. He tells it well, anyway..
Re: I need a ride to Shannon after Willie Clancy week
Seriously though, to address your question. There'll be loads of people around during the week. If you are doing a class, the best bet would be to ask around your fellow students etc. and get a lift into Shannon that way.
Re: I need a ride to Shannon after Willie Clancy week
Hussar - that has to be the funniest piece of writing this side of Flann O'Brien, but only for an Irish reader, and probably only a male Irish reader at that.
Re: I need a ride to Shannon after Willie Clancy week
Malachy Mc Court describes in his book "a monk swimming" one time being in a busy restaurant in New York (i think) and being asked by the female conceirge to remove his coat..he proceeds to the bar and is asked once again , by the Barman, to remove his coat..Now this was not a particularly athsthetically displeasingfcoat..says Mc Court..It was infact quite an expensive coat and in his view he should be allowed to wear a coat whilst having a drink if such was his inclanation..I cant serve you with a coat on Sir, or somthing equally curt was the Barmans continual reply to his prostests..Mc Court left the Bar and went to his Car..He removed his coat..and all his other clothes except shoes and put the offending coat back on..He proceeded back into the Bar where he asks the Barman for a Drink..Mc Courts demands were met with the same curt reply..Finally submitting to Mc Court says fine il take it off..semmingly defeated..the Female conceirge is called to take Mr Mc Courts Coat..She does and there is uproar in the busy restaurant..He is half pushed half beaten out of the place only to find that his car keys remained in the pocket ..of his coat.. Thats roughly how he tells it anyway..thought it was very funny..
Id say youd get a lift to shannon no problem..The piggyback offer still stands
Re: I need a ride to Shannon after Willie Clancy week
In fact, musicstudent, it might not be quite as easy as Trucks suggests.
If your flight leaves at 9, you´ll need to be there by about 7.30.
This means you need to find someone with a car who is leaving Miltown around 6.30 - 7 on Sunday morning, and going to Shannon.
If not, you´ll need to book a cab which may have to come from Ennis if there isn´t one in Miltown. How much would that cost ?
I don´t know. 50 euros ?
Alternatively - but this would mean missing the saturday night sessions - you could catch the latest connection to Shannon on saturday evening/night, and kip down at the airport.
Many people catching early flights do this. The cleaners might wake you about half past four, but if you´re lucky you´ll doze off again !
Good luck anyway.

50 euros from Ennis to shannon Airport is the fare..from Milltown/who knows..best book in advance and agree a price..Alternatively rent a car? therby negating taxi fares/ u cud sleep in it too..then just leave it at the airport

Keep in mind that "ride" has an off-color slang meaning in Ireland. You may (or may not) prefer to ask for a lift.
