Sad news to anyone who ever met or knew Con.
One of the true greats of the music scene at home and in London for many years.
Con retired home to Brosna some years ago, where he continued with his love of playing fiddle, teaching and unleashing his knife edge wit on anyone and everyone.
He enjoyed his own festival in Brosna for the last few years where he was loved by everyone, young and old.
This man will be greatly missed...
Sad news.
I remember him from when he was the landlord of "The Balloon" down by the power station in Fulham.
To cater for the shift workers at the power station he had a licence that allowed him to open early in the morning, but his pub was famous for after hours sessions on Sunday afternoons. In those days pubs had to close at 2 p.m. on Sundays and couldn´t open again till 7 p.m..
All "musicianers" were welcome. You knocked on the side door and had to produce an instrument to show you were a musician. Fortunately the entrance test didn´t involve playing it, as many of us wouldn´t have passed muster !
May he rest in peace.
I remember him from the Sunday Morning sessions in the Favourite in London. Sad to see that he has now joined many of the characters from those days who have passed on. At least he had a tune called after him 'Con Curtain's Big Balloon' and a ready made memorial festival in his name.
RIP.
