Chicago Celtic Fest

Chicago Celtic Fest

A stunning pre festival performance last night at Preston Bradley Hall in Chicago by Alasdair Fraser with Natalie Haas. Natalie is a young cellist with great drive, attack and energy aswell as beauty! Todd Denman & Aniar were stunning as well with an awesome uilleann pipe performance backed by piano, guitar, fiddle and voice. And I had the great honor to be seated next to very pleasant Dennis Cahill. Anyone attending the Chicago Celtic Festival in Grant Park today will not be disappointed, even with the not so cooperative weather!

Re: Chicago Celtic Fest

Hey all, it's been a while.
I did see those two shows, and enjoyed them. But as my husband and I walked around on Sunday, between main stages, I found myself mildly entertained by party bands and the well-knowns, but not blown away by anything. *Until* we broke away to the smaller stages, the pipe tional tent specifically, and watched a group of four guys called Millish. They're from Ann Arbor, Michigan and they were amazing. The uillean piper, a college-age-ish guy, also played an array of whistles, and I watched him with my jaw to the floor, like I remember seeing Seamus Egan for the first time. Some of their elements were untraditional, which may offend some purist, but they were the exception to the overall feel of Irish rather than the rule, and frankly, quite refreshing. I don't know if they have a recording, but if they do - try to hear it, and if you hear of them playing - go see!

That would be Tyler Duncan. Wow is a mild understatement. He is phenominal and really nice guy to boot.

I'm glad you caught his act!
