Thanks Murcu, you just beat me to it. Congratulations to RTE for giving us a full hour on a céilí band. What a year it is for this small Clare village and this great céilí band. Kilfenora is also putting on a festival around the end of April (I'll post details when I can get my hands on them) to celebrate the band's centenary year. The band are also lined up for a great concert in Glór during Fleadh Nua - click on http://comhaltas.ie/events/detail/fleadh_nua_2009_saturday_23_may/ for full details. This event will be similar to the one in March in the National Concert Hall which was a sell-out. From what I've heard the Glór one is fast heading in this direction too so for anyone wanting to guarantee a seat, then I'd recommend booking on-line fairly quickly.
I know the phrase "one not to be missed" has become a bit of a cliche, but as far as the RTE programme on Tuesday night goes, it couldn't be more relevant.
Mtodd, do you mean their concertina player or Traditional Irish Music?
A bit more information on tomorrow night's programme:
‘In The Blood’, an hour long documentary that celebrates 100 Years of The Kilfenora Céilí Band will broadcast as part of the high profile Arts Lives strand next Tuesday 7th April at 10.30pm on RTÉ One.
Directed by John O’Donnell and produced by Jackie Larkin for Stray Dog Films, the programme explores The Kilfenora Céilí Band, both past and present and looks at how their music evolved from the Fife and Drum band of the 1800’s into the Brass and Reid at the turn of the century before eventually settling into a ten piece band of wind and string instruments.
The Band has struggled many times over the years to ensure that both their name and their music would survive and this documentary illustrates how that music will indeed live on through the younger members’ determination in maintaining the heritage and tradition of their forefathers. Some of the older members also give accounts of the house dances of the 1930’s as well as the heyday of Céilí bands in the 1950’s when they played to massive crowds at the Fléadh Cheoils along with packing out dancehalls throughout the country and in England.
The documentary was funded by the Broadcast Commission of Ireland (BCI), The Irish Film Board, The Arts Council and RTÉ and includes contributions from well-respected musicians and broadcasters including PJ Curtis and Kieran Hanrahan.
There's a 4-page interview by John Lynch with the Kilfenora in the current issue (April-May 2009) of Set Dancing News, followed by the dots of three tunes from their centenary album "Century". The tunes are The Primrose Polka, Joe Ward's March and Tom Ward's March.
I would expect the interview to appear online later this year on http://www.setdancingnews.net.

Probably a foolish question, but do they have streaming video archives? or even just audio? I'd love to see/hear it...
