Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

I recently looked up the jig 'Ryan's' from a De Danann record 'Selected Jigs Reels & Songs' and the link on the recording posted led me to another tune altogether; a slip jig called Ryan's. I asked here on the site and was informed that Sean Ryan's was the correct jig so I'm happy with that. But I was wondering if there is any way to correct the existing link. Has anyone done that before?

e-mial Jeremy. But don't keep your hopes up. It's just one of thousands of errors. He doesn't have the time to correct them all, And I don't blame him

The links are done automatically by tune title. Inaccuracies are bound to appear but I'm afraid there's no manual override.

And good luck trying to match the links from recordings on "Paddy Fahey's" as well..

Re: Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

When I find an errant link I try to leave a comment. I have yet to find 1 which has been corrected.
I suppose whoever submits the recording might be able to put a note in the track listing.

Most recently I found a recording under the tune ~
"Dick Gossip's"

Also known as "The Castle", ..." Girl Talk", "Gossip".

. . . which appears on track 17 as 'The Castle'
Music At Matt Molloy's

17.The Boys Of Ballinahinch
The Castle
Mico Russell's

Linking to "The Castle" takes you to this jig ~
"The Kesh"

Also known as "The Castle, Dean Lloyd's Jig #2, Kerrigan's, Kesh, The Kesh Mountain, The Kincora, Salty Dog".

I don't know if this* would result in a link . . . but the track listing could be edited (in theory)
to complete the database. Hopefully preserving how the tracks appear on the original recording.

17.The Boys Of Ballinahinch
* The Castle { aka Dick Gossip's }
Mico Russell's

The only way to find out is for someone, who has submitted a recording, to give this a try.
Because I could be wrong & will just have to continue leaving notes in the database.
;)

Re: Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

One way to find the tune you're looking for would be to search from the Tunes page, choosing 'jig' as your tune type and putting 'ryan' in the search box. You'll get a whole list of tunes with 'ryan' somewhere in the title - just search through them until you find the one you want. As this tune is on a De Danann album, the chances are somebody's posted it here.

What are the odds "Sean Ryan's Jig" would a.k.a. "The Castle" & thus listing the Matt Molloy CD?

Re: Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

The only way to make ambiguous links work is to use the tune id numbers
in the track list and tune id numbers as alternate titles in the tune record

Re: Can an incorrect tune be changed on a recording?

Hup, I like the lateral thinking but I dont think that people would enjoy reading the numerical entries on an album tracklisting. I think that where the link doesn't work because of ambiguity like Gan Ainm or Paddy Fahey's, it best to put the link into the comments section if you know where the tune is to be found.

D - Not meant to be serious. For Jeremy an enhancement suggestion.
The numeric keys need not be displayed, but give editors an option to
force a link by giving them a tune id field to fill in.
