It would really help to know what instrument you play, but one reel that I know sounds great on any instrument, is catchy/ not repetitive, & leaves lots of room for variation would be Jackson's (the one that starts " efed B2 dB | ABGB AFGF | etc.")
It's also in Em, so hopefully that helps.
Except when I say: the best tune to play in a competition is one that you enjoy playing normally. For two reasons: (1) you'll be realxed and enjoy playing it and therefore play better (hopefully); (2) if everyone did this then the competitions would be slightly less artificial and a tad more like the real world.
If its for a competition...& I hate them...I'd just play the one's that you truly love &can really nail every time, without fail.
If you have plenty of time to learn a new one, then only you can find the tune that suits your style, & its got to be one you love,,,not a flashy bunch of notes.
I won the Mid Atlantic senior fiddle cup in NY in 94, but it was against p*ss poor opponents...& it meant little to me...I'd ve rather placed 3rd against stiff competition,
So I think your gonna have to figure it out yourself.
You have to play an Air, Jig, H"/P & reel or a few different timings, right?.
I'd just play ones you have a little twist of yourself on, even though perhaps well known...rather than some flash tune that doesn't mean much to you..
but good luck..& don't start too fast

Re: Looking for a GREAT reel!
You'll never win a competition playing reels.

What you want is a really good mazurka. Or maybe a polka.

On 2nd thoughts (and just in case).
