E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

I have a Saltarelle D D Sharp melodeon which has seen little or no use since I stopped playing regularly for sets about 10 years ago. My C Sharp D Saltarelle (and Ptarmigan's favourite Castagnari 1 row) are my instruments of choice these days. While I advertised this box in the usual places before, I got a poor response as most people like to see/hear an instrument before parting with their money, and I was not in a position to travel all over the country to let prospective buyers try it out. As a number of people here have been looking for boxes of late, I have decided to give it a go once again, but this time I have posted a few clips of the box on youtube that should hopefully give everyone a better idea of what the box is like. It is currently in Northern Ireland, and I am assuming that most of those who might be interested will be in Ireland somewhere.
The video clips are not technically all that great- blame that on my inexperience with the technology! As for the tunes, these were the first to come to mind...

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Great sounding box, and lovely playing. I better stick with my Hohner C#/D though. It's more than I can handle.

Hope you find a good home for this great instrument

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Your asking price might be helpful as well.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Apologies..brain still hurts after trying to master video/editing/uploading to Youtube in one afternoon!
The box is in an as-new condition, but fully run in and easier to play, so I am looking for 1000 Euro/£950 Sterling for it. It was a one-off special order when new, and one of the very first of this design. The combination of reeds (two middle, one high) makes it very rare as well.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

I have added one more clip, this time recorded in daylight(!)
this time of a few hornpipes.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

i agree with mr. donohoe about the cd idea. your playing style really has "it"---that lonesome, cooley-ish, "sound-of-the-past" press-draw ambience (as opposed to the methed-up, post jimmy kimmel, low-reed press-draw sound that makes me want to jump through a plate-glass window)....lovely playing, lovely lilt....

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

how are the MMH reeds tuned, wet/dry-wise? a few cents between the middle reeds and then the high one tuned unison octive to the conert-pitch reed? or???? very cool sound, MMH....

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

I'll just join the chorus of appreciation Red, lovely playing and a very nice sound from the box.

Good luck with the sale. Although I think, just to make sure, you really need to submit more clips ;-)

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

BTW, I've been keeping an eye on the liklier places where boxes would come up for sale (I'm looking for a c#d box, without much success), but I'm pretty certain that I hadn't seen your DD# until now.

Do you mind if I ask you where you had in mind by "the usual places" for advertising, as I'm most probably looking in the wrong places. (Doh!)

best wishes - chris

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Usual places.. the Irish press, namely Belfast Telegraph, Buy and Sell, etc. This was a few years ago, and Youtube was only a blip on the horizon. As for Ebay, I haven't got round to figuring that out- I'd rather go to a orum like this one where I know other box players would be online.
Ceemonster, the MMH reeds are tuned as you say- my C#D is tuned straight/dry and wouldn't have the same bite as this one.
More clips... if I can, time permitting.
Thanks for your comments, one and all.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Orum?
Never start the morning off on the computer after a night of tunes with Ptarmigan!

FORUM- sorry.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Thanks Ceemonster, I'll keep an eye on that.
I hadn't been searching the us ebay site since the uk£ crashed v the US$. I used to buy a lot of bookks from the US, but prices have gone up by 50%.

Apologies for taking this OT, Red Deisel.

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Hey Red, does the integrated Sim Card, with the 4,000 + tunes on it, come with this box, or does the buyer need to buy their own card? ;-)

Of course, as an incentive, you could always throw in a years supply of the appropriate Duracell Batteries, with it. :-D

Good Luck
Dick

Re: E Flat Saltarelle Melodeon..

Well.old friend....
I think your sim card wouldn't fit (too many tunes!)
Haven't I told you before to check the label underneath to find out what tunes come with a box before you buy?

(A friend once bought an old red Paolo.. it would only play marches, hornpipes, and very slow reels)

As for the batteries, sure everyone knows that you need at least one fresh set per session.

P.S. This is an in-joke between myself and Ptarmigan- not to be taken seriously!
